Get the text out of a PDF.

Pull every word out of a PDF as plain text, ready to copy into an email, a doc or an AI tool, or save as a .txt file.

How it works

  1. Add your PDF

Drop in any PDF with real text in it.

  2. Extract

The text is read line by line, page by page, in reading order.

  3. Copy or download

Copy it from the box or download it as a .txt file.

Good to know. Scanned PDFs are pictures of text, so there’s nothing to extract without OCR, which this tool doesn’t do. Text in multi-column layouts is read across the page, so columns can interleave.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using open-source libraries, so your file never leaves your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and it’ll still work.

Why is the text empty?

The PDF is likely a scan or photo. Try selecting a word in your PDF reader. If you can’t, there’s no text layer to extract.

Does it keep formatting?

No, it’s plain text: line breaks and paragraph gaps stay, bold, fonts and layout don’t. For an editable document, try PDF to Word.

Is there a size limit?

No set limit. Long documents just take a few more seconds.
